Hand, arm and shoulder therapy for children — grasping, writing, independence

When one hand can do less than the other, when grasping is an effort or writing will not come — we help your child use their hands as well as they possibly can.

Our approach

Hand and arm therapy that arrives where it matters

In children with hemiparesis, cerebral palsy, muscle weakness or following neurological conditions, one hand is often weaker. That has a strong effect on grasping, dressing, eating, writing and taking part. We train grip strength, mobility, coordination and the use of both hands together (bimanual training) in a targeted way — always embedded in everyday activities that make sense to the child.
A hand that can do more changes everything: school, friendships, confidence.
Treatment focus

What we can do for your child

From the shoulder to the fingertip — we train the whole upper limb.

🫴🏻

Grasp function & hand strength

Picking up, letting go, pinching, turning — every kind of grasp, with materials made for children.

🙌

Bimanual training

Using both hands together — opening a bottle, tying shoes. A key element in hemiparesis.

✍🏻

Writing & school day

Pencil grip, controlling pressure, stamina while writing — preparing for what school asks.

🤷

Shoulder & trunk connection

A stable shoulder and good anchoring through the trunk are the basis for arm movement.

⚙️

Assistive devices & splints

Wrist splints, grasp aids, writing aids — advice and support with health insurance claims.

📆

Intensive therapy, 1–3 weeks

Concentrated hand and arm training — particularly effective after botulinum toxin in the arm muscles.

Our equipment and methods

These modern devices and methods are waiting for you

In hand and arm therapy we use innovative technology that supports children in grasping, moving and exploring — motivating and designed for their age.

The Amadeo hand robot for targeted finger and hand training in rehabilitation
Hand und Finger

Amadeo – Finger- und Handroboter

The centrepiece for hand and shoulder work: the Amadeo moves each finger individually and achieves a number of repetitions impossible by hand. It can be used even when your child can barely move their fingers.

Tyrostation – Armtherapie

A training station for the whole arm: the system supports as much as necessary so that real movement occurs even with weak muscles — not merely an attempt.

Arm und Schulter

Diego – Armtrainer

The Diego takes part of the arm’s weight. Movements that fail against gravity become possible — and can be repeated hundreds of times.

Our therapists

Specialised. Experienced. Here for you.

Here the whole upper limb is the focus: shoulder, arm and hand are trained functionally and close to everyday life. We work with modern neurotherapeutic methods such as bimanual training or, where appropriate, Constraint-Induced Movement Therapy. Your child practises real actions from daily life — grasping, holding, playing — rather than isolated movements. The therapy is built around play, so motivation and enjoyment come first. Progress shows directly in everyday life: in playing, drawing or getting dressed.

Häufige Fragen

Was Sie wissen möchten

What is CIMT, and does it work for hemiparesis?▾
CIMT (Constraint Induced Movement Therapy) means restricting the stronger hand, for example with a glove, so that the child has to use the weaker one. It is among the best-evidenced methods for hemiparesis. We use CIMT playfully and adapted to the child’s age.
Can physiotherapy help after botulinum toxin in the arm muscles?▾
Yes — and it is decisive. After botulinum toxin is injected into the arm muscles, spasticity is reduced for four to eight weeks. Intensive hand and arm physiotherapy during that time makes the best use of the window and secures the progress for the longer term.
When can our child with hemiparesis learn to write?▾
Most children with hemiparesis do learn to write — often later and with adapted aids. What matters is early occupational therapy, writing aids and targeted writing practice. We prepare your child specifically from around the age of five and coordinate with the school.
Which assistive devices help when hand function is limited?▾
It depends on the assessment: ergonomic pens, non-slip mats, button hooks, adapted cutlery, zip pulls, wrist splints. We advise individually, order the devices and support you through the health insurance claim.
