Our approach

Gait therapy that genuinely helps your child

Children with cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida or following neurological conditions struggle with walking every day. Our paediatric gait therapy improves gait pattern, safety and stamina with modern methods made for children. We combine the Bobath approach with functional training and robot-assisted gait therapy, using modern systems such as Lyra and Perpedes that make intensive, repeated and motivating walking practice possible. Families looking for Lokomat therapy for their child will find a specialised alternative with us in Graz and Vienna: Lyra and Perpedes work on the same principle – highly repetitive, body-weight-supported gait training with many steps per session, matched to the size and the attention span of a child. The result: more progress in less time, and therapy your child looks forward to.
Every step your child takes alone is a step towards more freedom. That is what drives us.
Treatment focus

What we can do for your child

Targeted forms of therapy — matched to the diagnosis and to personal goals.

🏫

Everyday walking & the way to school

Climbing stairs, the way to school, the playground — for more independence and taking part socially.

💪

Strength & stamina

Targeted strengthening of the leg, hip and trunk muscles — for longer walking distances and less tiredness during the school day.

🦶

Gait pattern & coordination

Improving the gait pattern, step length and symmetry — with gait analysis, Bobath and functional training.

🤖

Robot-assisted gait therapy

Gait trainers such as Lyra and Perpedes allow safe, highly repetitive walking practice – including for children who cannot yet walk on their own. The same principle as the Lokomat, in a form made for children.

⚖️

Balance & fall prevention

Standing and walking safely — particularly important with cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy and after surgery.

📆

Intensive therapy, 1–3 weeks

Daily gait therapy — particularly effective after botulinum toxin, after surgery, or when a child first walks independently.

Our equipment and methods

These modern devices and methods are waiting for you

Treadmill training with therapist support to improve gait pattern and stamina
Gehtraining mit Sicherung

Funktionelles Laufbandtraining

Secured in a harness, the treadmill adds up to far more steps than walking around the room — and your child can concentrate entirely on the movement.

Lyra – robotikgestützter Gangtrainer

The Lyra guides the legs in the correct pattern and achieves hundreds of steps per session. This volume is the core of gait therapy: only it establishes a new movement pattern in the brain.

Our therapists

Specialised. Experienced. Here for you.

Our specialised paediatric physiotherapists walk alongside your child step by step towards a safer gait pattern. With playful exercises, computer-assisted gait trainers and motivating repetition we build the brain's capacity to reorganise itself. Every session is adapted individually — to your child's pace, needs and possibilities. Progress is made visible, for example through video or simple gait analysis, so your child can experience their own development. Every small step counts and is celebrated together.

Häufige Fragen

Was Sie wissen möchten

From what age can our child begin gait therapy?▾
Gait therapy can begin as soon as a child stands or takes first steps — depending on the diagnosis, that is anywhere between 12 months and several years. Starting early is worthwhile: the brain is at its most adaptable in the first years of life, and new gait patterns can be learned more efficiently. We work with children from toddler age onwards.
What is robot-assisted gait therapy, and is it safe for children?▾
Robot-assisted gait therapy uses specialised robotic devices such as Lyra and Perpedes to support children in walking safely and naturally. The devices guide the movements in a controlled way and are adjusted individually for each child. Yes, the therapy is safe. Our experienced therapists supervise every session in person, so your child is under supervision throughout.
How often a week does our child need gait therapy?▾
In regular therapy we recommend two to three sessions a week, supported by exercises at home. In an intensive phase — after botulinum toxin or surgery, for example — one to two hours a day over one to three weeks. The exact frequency depends on the diagnosis, the age and the current goal.
Does health insurance cover the cost of gait therapy?▾
In Austria physiotherapy is partly funded through the ÖGK on a medical referral. As we work outside the public contract system, you receive an invoice from us. Your health insurer reimburses part of it — supplementary insurance often more. You do not need a referral for the initial consultation.
