General and first contact

6 questions
Which children is HOME4MOTION Kids suitable for?+
HOME4MOTION Kids specialises in neurological rehabilitation for children with cerebral palsy, neurological conditions, muscular conditions, spinal conditions and genetic conditions that affect movement. We work with children in Graz and Vienna — from early intervention through to intensive rehabilitation where limitations are more advanced.
Do we need a referral for our child’s therapy?+
No — you can contact us at any time without one. We arrange a free initial consultation in which we discuss together which therapy suits your child best. A medical referral can be helpful for possible reimbursement by your health insurer, and we advise you on that individually.
How does the first conversation about our child work?+
The initial consultation takes place by phone or in person — whichever suits you, in Graz or Vienna. We talk about your child’s diagnosis and developmental history, current limitations and therapy goals, suitable forms of therapy and equipment, and practical questions about appointments, costs and, where relevant, accommodation. The conversation is free and commits you to nothing.
What makes HOME4MOTION Kids different?+
HOME4MOTION Kids is not a general therapy centre but a service specialising in neurological conditions in children. All our therapists have experience in paediatric neurology. We work with 15 state-of-the-art robot-assisted therapy devices, used in ways suited to children, and we have our own paediatric therapy room in Graz. Playful elements and interactive feedback keep therapy motivating for children.
From what age can children be treated at HOME4MOTION Kids?+
That depends on the diagnosis and the therapy goals. As a rule we work with children from toddler age onwards. Do contact us directly — we will advise you individually on which therapies make sense for your child and at what age.
Are parents entitled to time off work when accompanying their child to therapy?+
Yes. In Austria parents have a statutory entitlement to time off work and to Pflegekarenzgeld (care leave benefit) for a total of four weeks a year when accompanying a child up to the age of 14 on an inpatient rehabilitation stay. The application for Pflegekarenzgeld can be submitted to the Sozialministeriumservice, the federal social office, once the rehabilitation has ended. We are glad to issue all the confirmations and documents you need. If you have questions about your own situation, do ask us — we will help.

What we offer and how it works

5 questions
What is intensive therapy for children — and why does it work?+
In intensive therapy several sessions a day are brought together over one to three weeks. A child’s brain is especially able to learn (neuroplasticity): many repetitions in a short time help establish new motor patterns lastingly. Intensive therapy combines physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy and, where appropriate, recoveriX — matched individually to your child.
How long does an intensive therapy programme for our child last?+
Typical programmes run for two to four weeks with two to four sessions a day, depending on your child’s age, diagnosis and stamina. There are also shorter focused programmes and longer-term outpatient support. In the initial consultation we plan the right programme together.
Which therapy disciplines does HOME4MOTION Kids offer?+
We offer: physiotherapy (gait therapy, balance and coordination, hand-arm-shoulder) in Graz and Vienna; occupational therapy (fine and gross motor skills, everyday skills training, splint provision) in Graz; speech and language therapy (language, swallowing, speech, communication) in Graz; and recoveriX (an EEG-based brain-computer interface) in Graz and Vienna.
Can we use HOME4MOTION Kids on an outpatient basis, without an intensive programme?+
Yes. Alongside intensive therapy programmes we also offer regular outpatient one-to-one sessions for children — weekly or as needed. Many families combine an intensive block with outpatient support afterwards, to keep and build on the progress made.
Can parents be present during therapy?+
Yes — and we positively welcome it. Parents are an important part of the therapy process. You learn exercises and techniques you can continue at home with your child. That extends the effect of the therapy and strengthens your child’s trust in the therapy setting.

Costs and health insurance

5 questions
What does therapy for our child cost at HOME4MOTION Kids?+
You will find exact prices on our prices page. Costs vary according to the therapy discipline, the length of the session and the programme chosen. For intensive therapy we offer package prices. In the free initial consultation you receive a complete, transparent overview of the costs.
Does our health insurer cover the cost of therapy for our child?+
HOME4MOTION Kids is a Wahltherapeut — a provider working outside the public insurance contract system. Costs are paid privately in the first instance. Many families receive partial reimbursement through the ÖGK, Austria’s public health insurer, or through supplementary insurance. We provide all the documents and therapy reports needed for the claim.
Is there funding available for children with neurological conditions?+
Yes. Possible support includes: the increased family allowance (erhöhte Familienbeihilfe, where a disability is recognised), Pflegegeld (care allowance) for children, funding through social insurance bodies such as AUVA or SVS, funds held by individual federal provinces, and private children’s charities. Our team is glad to advise you on what applies in your particular situation.
Can therapy costs for our child be set against tax?+
In many cases yes — particularly where your child has a recognised disability. The costs can be claimed as an extraordinary expense (außergewöhnliche Belastung) in your Austrian tax return. We recommend discussing this with a tax adviser, and we are glad to issue the confirmations of therapy you need.
Is payment by instalments or another flexible arrangement possible?+
Do speak to us directly and in confidence — we will look for a solution together. Our aim is that financial barriers should not stand in the way of the rehabilitation your child needs.

Equipment and rooms

5 questions
How are the therapy devices adapted for children?+
All our robot-assisted therapy devices can be set individually for each child — for size, level of assisted force, range of movement and difficulty. Playful computer programmes and interactive feedback keep children motivated and focused, even during demanding exercises.
Which devices are particularly well suited to children?+
Particularly well suited to children are: Amadeo and Myro (playful hand and finger training with computer games), Tymo (balance and coordination with interactive elements), Lyra and Perpedes (gait therapy with a high number of repetitions), Pablo (arm and shoulder coordination for everyday movements), and the ceiling harness system and treadmill for safe walking practice.
Is there a therapy room specifically for children?+
Yes — in Graz we have our own paediatric therapy room, set up specifically around what children need and how they feel. The rooms are designed for children, welcoming and safe. Suitable rooms for children’s therapy are also available in Vienna.
Are the practice rooms accessible for children with a wheelchair or assistive devices?+
Yes — both locations, in Graz and in Vienna, are fully accessible and wheelchair accessible. Wide corridors, no steps and enough room to manoeuvre mean children using a wheelchair or walking aids can use every room without restriction.
Is our child’s progress documented?+
Yes. The therapy devices produce measurable data automatically, and we carry out regular progress assessments. The results are summarised in a therapy report, which we can make available to you and, if you wish, to your child’s doctor or school.

Conditions and indications

5 questions
Which conditions does HOME4MOTION Kids treat?+
We work with children who have: cerebral palsy at every level of severity, neurological conditions (for example after traumatic brain injury or during follow-up care after a tumour), muscular conditions (for example muscular dystrophy), spinal conditions (for example SMA or spina bifida) and genetic conditions that affect movement. If you have questions about a particular diagnosis, do contact us directly.
How does HOME4MOTION Kids help with cerebral palsy?+
With cerebral palsy our therapy aims to improve gait pattern, balance, arm and hand function and everyday abilities. Robot-assisted gait therapy (Lyra, Perpedes) and hand training (Amadeo) make many repetitions possible, which is what establishes new motor patterns in the brain. Every course of therapy is matched individually to your child’s GMFCS level and goals.
Can HOME4MOTION Kids help with muscular conditions such as muscular dystrophy?+
Yes. With muscular conditions the focus is on maintaining existing function, strengthening the muscle groups that remain and improving everyday abilities. Therapy can help slow the course of the condition and improve your child’s quality of life lastingly.
Does therapy also help with neurological conditions that have a genetic cause?+
Yes — even where the underlying genetic cause cannot be cured, targeted therapy can maintain motor abilities, build everyday skills and delay complications. We work closely with your child’s medical team and develop a realistic, goal-oriented therapy programme.
How soon after a traumatic brain injury can our child begin rehabilitation?+
The earlier the better — a child’s brain is especially adaptable. As soon as your child’s medical condition is stable we recommend starting targeted intensive therapy. Do contact us; we coordinate the start of rehabilitation together with the medical team treating your child.

Apartments and getting here

5 questions
Is there accommodation for families during intensive therapy in Graz?+
Yes — we offer three therapy apartments directly beside the therapy centre in Graz. The Familienapartment has room for the whole family, the Freiraum-Apartment is fully wheelchair accessible (ideal where care needs are greater), and the Mobilitäts-Apartment suits one parent with a child. All the apartments are accessible and fully equipped.
Is the apartment suitable for children who use a wheelchair?+
Yes — our Freiraum-Apartment is fully wheelchair accessible: wide doors, an accessible bathroom with care facilities, a hospital bed and a view of the garden. Parking is available directly at the building. The apartment was designed specifically for patients with greater care needs and is well suited to children.
Can siblings or both parents come too?+
Yes — the Familienapartment has room for parents and one further person (a sibling, for example) on the sofa bed. For larger families or particular situations do speak to us; we are glad to help with the planning.
How far is the accommodation from the children’s therapy centre?+
The apartments are directly beside the therapy centre in Graz — no journey, no waiting. That is particularly valuable for families whose child depends on assistive devices. The short distance saves energy for the therapy itself.
What is the best way to travel to Graz or Vienna with our child?+
Both locations are easy to reach by car, with parking directly on site. Graz main station is about 10 minutes away. If you need support with travelling with a wheelchair, assistive devices or greater care needs, we are glad to help with the planning. Just ask us.
