Swallowing therapy for children — eating safely and without worry

Does your child cough while drinking, choke frequently, take forever over a meal or refuse entire textures? We analyse the swallowing pattern and make eating relaxed again – from infants with drinking problems to school-age children.

Our approach

Swallowing therapy that brings safety and peace of mind

Swallowing problems don't only affect children with serious diagnoses. Infants come to us who cannot find a rhythm at the breast or bottle. Toddlers who don't manage the switch to solid food. Children who choke repeatedly or cough while eating. And school-age children who need an hour for one plate or accept only a handful of foods.

We look at how your child actually swallows – oral motor skills, sequence, posture, textures – and derive concrete steps from this: exercises for lips, tongue and jaw, safe textures, seating position, pace, the course of the meal. You don't get a brochure, you get recommendations for your own kitchen table.

For neurologically caused dysphagia (cerebral palsy, SMA, muscular dystrophy) we additionally work with aspiration prophylaxis and close medical coordination – this is what we have specialised in since 2018.

Eating should bring joy – not fear. That is our goal.

Eating should be a pleasure, not a worry. That is our aim.

Häufige Fragen

Was Sie wissen möchten

How do I recognise whether our child has swallowing problems?▾
Typical signs: coughing frequently while eating or drinking, drooling, refusing food, eating very slowly, a blue tinge to the lips. If your child needs a long time to eat or rejects particular textures, a swallowing difficulty may be behind it.
Is swallowing often affected in children with cerebral palsy?▾
Yes — particularly in children with tetraparesis. Studies show that between 30 and 80 per cent of children with cerebral palsy have some form of swallowing difficulty. Early swallowing therapy can prevent serious complications such as aspiration pneumonia.
Which food textures are safe for children with swallowing problems?▾
That is individual and depends on the exact swallowing pattern. In our swallowing assessment we analyse precisely which textures are safe. We draw up an individual eating plan and explain how to feed your child safely.
Can swallowing therapy prevent our child needing a feeding tube?▾
In some cases early intensive swallowing therapy can delay or avoid the need for a feeding tube. If a tube does become necessary, that is not a defeat — and swallowing therapy remains important even then, to maintain oral function.
